Teleperformance Greece and Aegean Rebreath protecting are restoring Posidonia.

Teleperformance Greece has partnered with Aegean Rebreath to preserve and restore the Posidonia Oceanica meadows, which are crucial for our Mediterranean marine ecosystem. On October 11, took place a field action at Porto Rafti, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.

Through the innovative Do Not Disturb” project, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of Posidonia meadows and the threats they face from human activities. This pilot project, implemented for the first time in Greece, goes a step further by directly intervening to restore an area of damaged Posidonia meadows.

These underwater ecosystems, often called the “lungs of the sea,” play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our oceans.

Understanding Anchorage Areas and why they matter

As part of our initiative, we are focusing on establishing sustainable anchorage areas. These designated zones are crucial for protecting Posidonia meadows from the harmful effects of improper anchoring.

When boats anchor in unsuitable areas, they can damage these vital underwater ecosystems, which serve as habitats for various marine species and play a significant role in maintaining water quality. Anchorage areas will provide safe locations for vessels to anchor without threatening the health of the surrounding marine environment. By designating these areas, we aim to reduce environmental damage while still accommodating the needs of boaters and local communities.

This initiative emphasizes responsible boating practices, ensuring that marine life and habitats are preserved for future generations.

A Day of Learning and Collaboration

Our event brought together key stakeholders, including local authorities, and community members. The day featured engaging educational sessions on the importance of Posidonia meadows, emphasizing their critical role in sustaining marine biodiversity and enhancing water quality.

This initiative not only benefits the environment but also fosters a sense of responsibility within the community to protect our marine resources and marks a milestone in marine conservation efforts within the country.

A Strong Community Impact

By promoting sustainable practices, we aim to create a lasting impact on the local community and the broader Mediterranean ecosystem, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty and benefits of healthy Posidonia meadows. Together, we can ensure that our oceans thrive, maintaining the delicate balance of marine life in the Mediterranean.
